Homemade Turtle Candy with Pecans and Caramel
These classic Turtle Candies are a sweet and indulgent treat combining buttery caramel, crunchy toasted pecans, and rich chocolate. Perfect for gifting, parties, or simply satisfying your sweet tooth, they’re surprisingly easy to make at home.
Ingredients
-
12 ounces soft caramels (store-bought or homemade)
-
6 ounces pecan halves, toasted
-
8 ounces semi-sweet chocolate (chips or chopped)
Instructions
Step 1: Prepare the Pecans
Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Spread the pecan halves on a baking sheet and toast for 5–7 minutes, until fragrant. Let them cool slightly.
Step 2: Arrange Pecans and Caramel
Line a baking sheet with parchment paper. Place 3–4 pecan halves in small clusters on the parchment to form the base of each candy. Place 1 soft caramel on top of each pecan cluster.
Step 3: Melt the Chocolate
In a microwave-safe bowl, melt the chocolate in 30-second intervals, stirring in between, until smooth and glossy.
Step 4: Assemble the Turtles
Drizzle the melted chocolate over each caramel-pecan cluster, completely covering the caramel. You can also use a spoon to spread the chocolate evenly.
Step 5: Set the Candies
Allow the candies to cool at room temperature until the chocolate hardens. For faster setting, place them in the refrigerator for 15–20 minutes.
Step 6: Serve and Store
Enjoy immediately, or store in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 1 week.
