Ingredients
-
14 ounces sweetened condensed milk
-
4 cups hot water
-
6 eggs
-
2 teaspoons vanilla extract
-
¼ teaspoon salt
-
Ground nutmeg, for garnish
Instructions
Preheat the Oven
Set your oven to 325°F (163°C).
Mix Condensed Milk and Water
In a large bowl, combine the sweetened condensed milk with the hot water.
Beat the Eggs
In another bowl, beat the eggs until light and fluffy.
Combine Ingredients
Slowly add a little of the milk mixture into the eggs, whisking constantly to temper. Then stir in the rest of the milk mixture along with the vanilla extract and salt.
Prepare for Baking
Pour the mixture into 8 ramekins or a 2-quart baking dish. Place them in a larger pan and add hot water to the outer pan until it comes halfway up the sides of the ramekins or dish.
Bake
Bake for 1 hour if using ramekins, or about 1 hour 40 minutes if using a large baking dish, until the custard is set.
Cool and Serve
Let the custard cool completely, then sprinkle with nutmeg before serving.
