Irresistible Deep Dish Apple Crisp Recipe

There’s nothing quite like the aroma of apples, cinnamon, and butter wafting through the kitchen on a crisp fall day. This deep dish apple crisp takes the beloved classic to new heights—literally. With layers of tender, spiced apples baked beneath a thick, buttery oat topping, it’s the kind of dessert that feels like a hug in every bite. Best served warm with a scoop of vanilla ice cream or a dollop of whipped cream, this apple crisp is as comforting as it is irresistible.

Ingredients

Apple Filling

  • 6–8 apples (Granny Smith or Honeycrisp), peeled, cored, and thinly sliced

  • ½ cup granulated sugar

  • 2 tablespoons all-purpose flour

  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon

  • ¼ teaspoon ground nutmeg

  • 1 tablespoon lemon juice

Oat Crumble Topping

  • 1 cup old-fashioned rolled oats

  • ½ cup all-purpose flour

  • ½ cup packed brown sugar

  • ¼ cup granulated sugar

  • ½ teaspoon ground cinnamon

  • ½ cup cold unsalted butter, cubed

Directions

Step 1 – Preheat the Oven
Set your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a deep 9×9-inch or 9×13-inch baking dish.

Step 2 – Prepare the Apple Filling
In a large bowl, toss sliced apples with sugar, flour, cinnamon, nutmeg, and lemon juice. Transfer mixture into the prepared baking dish.

Step 3 – Make the Oat Crumble Topping
In another bowl, combine oats, flour, brown sugar, granulated sugar, and cinnamon. Cut in cold butter using a pastry cutter or your fingers until the mixture forms coarse crumbs.

Step 4 – Assemble & Bake
Sprinkle the oat crumble topping evenly over the apples. Bake for 45–50 minutes, or until the topping is golden brown and the filling is bubbling around the edges.

Step 5 – Cool & Serve
Let the apple crisp cool for at least 10 minutes before serving. Enjoy warm with vanilla ice cream or whipped cream.

Tips for Success

  • Use a mix of sweet and tart apples for the best flavor.

  • Slice apples evenly to ensure they bake consistently.

  • For extra crunch, add ½ cup chopped pecans or walnuts to the topping.

  • Reheat leftovers in the oven to keep the topping crisp.
