Why You’ll Love Monterey Sausage Pie

Monterey Sausage Pie is comfort food at its best—warm, cheesy, and packed with flavor. With a savory blend of sausage, eggs, garlic, and Monterey Jack cheese, this dish is hearty enough for dinner but also makes a fantastic breakfast or brunch centerpiece.

It’s quick to prepare, uses simple pantry staples, and bakes up golden and bubbly every time. Pair it with a fresh salad, roasted veggies, or even fruit for a complete meal.

Ingredients

  • 1 pound bulk pork sausage

  • 3 teaspoons minced garlic

  • 2 ½ cups shredded Monterey Jack cheese, divided

  • 1 ⅓ cups milk

  • 3 large eggs

  • ¾ cup biscuit/baking mix

  • ¾ teaspoon rubbed sage

  • ¼ teaspoon black pepper

How to Make Monterey Sausage Pie

  1. Cook the Sausage – In a skillet over medium heat, cook the sausage until no longer pink. Add garlic and cook for 1 more minute. Drain. Stir in 2 cups of cheese.

  2. Layer the Pie – Transfer the sausage mixture into a greased 9-inch deep-dish pie plate.

  3. Make the Batter – In a small bowl, whisk together milk, eggs, biscuit mix, sage, and pepper until smooth. Pour evenly over the sausage mixture.

  4. Bake – Bake at 400°F (200°C) for 20–25 minutes, or until a knife inserted near the center comes out clean.

  5. Add the Topping – Sprinkle with the remaining ½ cup cheese and bake for 1–2 minutes more, until melted.

  6. Rest & Serve – Let the pie stand for 10 minutes before slicing and serving.
