Ingredients

  • 1 cup all-purpose flour

  • ½ cup sugar

  • 1 tsp baking powder

  • ¼ tsp salt

  • ½ cup unsalted butter, softened

  • 8 oz cream cheese, softened

  • 1 egg

  • 1 tsp vanilla extract

  • 1 cup fresh blueberries

  • ½ cup brown sugar (for crumb topping)

Instructions

Step 1 – Prepare the Pan
Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour an 8-inch square baking pan.

Step 2 – Make the Batter
In a mixing bowl, combine flour, sugar, baking powder, and salt. Cut in softened butter until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs. Reserve ½ cup of this crumb mixture for the topping.

Step 3 – Cream Cheese Layer
In another bowl, beat cream cheese until smooth. Add egg and vanilla extract, mixing until well blended.

Step 4 – Assemble the Cake
Press the remaining crumb mixture firmly into the prepared pan to form the base. Spread the cream cheese mixture evenly over the crust. Sprinkle fresh blueberries on top.

Step 5 – Add the Topping
Mix reserved crumbs with brown sugar. Sprinkle this mixture evenly over the blueberries.

Step 6 – Bake
Bake for 35–40 minutes, or until the topping is golden and the center is set.

Step 7 – Cool & Serve
Allow the cake to cool completely before slicing into squares. Serve as is or with a dollop of whipped cream.
